Up since four, writing Munamal...

Hi all,
I was up at 4:00 tonight because it snowed, my bedroom has freakish acoustics and there were plows out being really mean to little kids who want a snow day so bad they stay up all night praying for one and to eveyone else who wants a good night's sleep, so I'm really tired. I'm hoping that at least my school will get cancelled, But its not a lot of snow. oh well. look for our next Munamal post Saturday, if I cant get it up by then, look next Saturday.

The Adventures of Munamal

Installment one
Munamal (pronounced moo nemal) walked out of his hut, over the surrounding mix of dirt, grass, sand and gravel, into the area of trees on the southern end of the island. Here he sat down facing the sea, yawned, and looked to his left at the rising sun. “Sun, when you set, I shall be a day older and wiser than now. Allow me to be granted good learning and strong growth today. Give me good luck on this special day”
Rising, he continued his southward walk. As he left the grove, he noticed the hot sand on his bare feet. It would have made three year old Merema cry out and jump back to the cool moss and grass. It would have made five year old Nayagi run across to the sea and put his feet in the cool, flowing water. Ten year old Wamiayi, who knew what would happen before it happened, would not have gone on the sand. Even his mother and father cringed a little when they walked over the hot sand. But at the age of eight, he shared one thing with old Amarya. He did not respond to pain.
The sand went on for about ten feet, then gave way to ocean. He walked over the sand, and into the sea. He kept walking into the sea until the gentle swells reached his neck. Still he pressed on, until soon he was lifted up and deposited six inches backward by each wave. His entire body was wet. Eventually, he allowed himself to be carried back to shore like driftwood. He was washed up on the small beach and lay there, rocking left and right with the coming and going of the waves.
He got up and ran to his hut, then walked on his toes through the door, through the main room and into his bedchamber. There he removed his wet tunic and pants, hung them in the window to dry, and put on dry ones. Then he walked out of the house, being careful not to wake hi parents. They would not be worried about him, for the island was barely 500 feet long and 100 feet wide, with ten people living on it. He would not have been able to go anywhere even if he had wanted to. However, he was able to go to Amarya’s house without anyone caring because of this.
That was where he was headed now as he ran towards the hut.
